Idea of the Day: Dramatic Play, Real World Objects…
Kids love real-world objects, and there are creative ways to include them in your children’s play areas and classroom centers.
After assessing each item for age-appropriateness and safety you may like to give some of your own ideas to try!
Computer Mouse—This computer mouse was no longer working. I removed the batteries, marked it with a Sharpie, and added it to our Dramatic Play Area.
Gift Cards—Once gift cards have been redeemed, I like to save them for use in our Dramatic Play Area along with our toy cash register. I mark them with a Sharpie first to prevent confusion.
Calculators—these calculators were an inexpensive dollar store find. My preschoolers love pretending they are cell phones and using them along with the toy cash register and gifts cards.
Grocery Packaging—Before you recycle them, perfectly clean, safe, grocery packages can be reused for Dramatic Play. Some items may last a day, some may last a week. I still remember being four years old and how I loved having real-world objects in my own kitchen play set.
