Yummy Food

“Anine, why do you always only ever give us yummy food?”

Preschooler, Age 4

Forever ago one of my best friends and I were talking about our young children and foods we had tried with them. My friend told me there were studies out there suggesting that kids who get their nutrition from a broad variety of sources, do better on IQ tests later than kids who get their nutrition from a narrow group of sources.

Can I quote a study for you and prove that? No, but I trust her, and ever since hearing that, I like to do an extra-good job with offering kids a variety of good, healthy food! At our house, my husband and I definitely order our share of takeout. Red Robin Avo-Cobb-O salad with no Bleu cheese crumbles? Yes, please! They aren’t kidding when they say “Yum”! I do also love to cook, especially if it is for company, or for the children in my care. If it’s for the kids, (and if you are not opposed to some floor sweeping afterwards!) it can be a lot of fun to turn it into an activity. Here in my Recipes from Home posts I will share recipes with you, and stories about some of our cooking activities, too.
