Hello!
Our day has been nice!
Today’s Activities…
Circle Time: We had an extra good circle time this morning in front of the calendar in our classroom space, and that was super fun. We sang about the days of the week, the months of the year, the seasons, we counted from 1 to 25, we practiced counting backwards from ten, we talked about the weather, and we did a chant together – the letter sounds for each letter of the alphabet. After that we sang songs, read a couple of stories, and the kids happily shared areas during some free play time with their friends.
Singing: Some of the songs we sang today included * All the Little Fish * Baby Shark * our Bumblebee song * Itsy Bitsy Spider * Three Little Monkeys/Alligator * Hop, Hop, Hop to the Barber Shop * Twinkle, Twinkle * Good Morning to You * On Top of Spaghetti * The Days of the Week * The Months of the Year * The Seasons
Flannel Board Story: Before lunch today the kids each got a chance to participate in the telling of a story – a flannel board version of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. Thank you to (preschool friend’s grandma), who shared the flannel board and all of the cute felt pieces with us! The kids speedily made their way up to the board when it was their turn to help, and were so excited to get to hold a little stuffed animal version of the caterpillar from the story. Each of the friends got to help the caterpillar “eat” whatever food items our story said the caterpillar had eaten that day.
Observing Caterpillars: Each of the kids got a chance to look at our caterpillar jars up close today. The caterpillars are starting to make their way up to the tops of their jars where they are attaching themselves to a paper liner on the lid of the jar. They usually hang upside down in the shape of a letter “J” for about 24 hours, and then form their chrysalis and “sleep” for about a week. Once all the chrysalises have formed, we move the lid to the butterfly habitat so the butterflies can emerge there.
Observing Ladybugs: Most of our ladybugs have emerged, now, and are a range of colors moving from yellow to the traditional red. When the temperature in their habitat is cooler, they sit pretty still and when it is warmer, it seems they are a lot more active. Today I put a light next to their habitat towards the end of rest time. When the kids woke up and came to the table for snack, I moved the ladybug habitat over to the table, too for the kids to peek into. The light had worked as far as inspiring the ladybugs to be a lot more active, so the kids had some fun watching them moving around their habitat for a little bit.
Outdoors: This afternoon instead of raining outside, it ended up being really pleasant. After snack the kids had a nice time on the deck for a little while playing with balls, water, bubbles, and paint brushes.
Favorite Activities… Some of the things the kids said they really liked today were playing in the classroom space, singing, playing musical instruments, playing with friends, playing Pirate Ship, building with linking cubes, playing with the Shark toys, playing with water, bubbles and paint brushes on the deck this afternoon, playing with the Fisher Price Little People sets, playing House, and playing with the Baby Dolls.
Today’s Meals… Breakfast was blueberry waffles, chocolate chip waffles, bananas, and milk. Lunch was gourmet ham steaks, Kraft Sharp Cheddar cheese slices, steamed corn, applesauce, Barilla whole-grain rotini pasta, fresh baked dinner rolls, and milk. Snack was graham crackers (Scooby Doo “Scooby Snacks” shaped like dog bones) and apple juice.
Thanks for reading and have a great evening!
