Monday and Tuesday, November 19th & 20th Activities…

Monday and Tuesday (child) and (child) took their turns bringing a show and share item and a story to share with their friends.  Thank you, everyone, for helping your child bring items to share!  Monday and Tuesday, we also played a “Stuff the Turkey” game and a “Turkey Baster Relay” game, and those were fun. During the Stuff the Turkey game the kids used bean bags and a “turkey” made out of a brown paper bag.  During the Turkey Baster game, the kids used turkey basters aimed at feathers and tried to move the feathers across the table, across the kitchen floor, or down the hall.

Tuesday, November 27th through Friday, November 30th Activities…

During the last week of November, we talked about “friendship”, read stories about friendship, had a fun pajama day/indoor picnic with stuffed animals, had a fire drill and a tornado drill, and on Friday we made “Friendship Soup”.  Other fun Tuesday through Friday included playing parachute games one day, playing with construction vehicles, and building tracks/racing Hot Wheels with friends.

During our Friendship soup activity, the kids got to shop for fresh vegetables at our “store” in the living room.  After loading their veggies into their toy shopping cart, “paying” the cashier, and getting their change back, the kids pushed their shopping cart over to the kitchen table where Grandma Bente was waiting to help the kids get started with their plastic “kids” knives, cutting boards, and clean, peeled vegetables.  The kids got to cut mushrooms, red cabbage, carrots, parsnips, celery, leek, onion, Brussel sprouts, fresh green beans, red potato and yellow potato.  The kids loved that activity and most of the friends turned down playing with toys in favor of having a longer turn cutting vegetables.  The kids were proud of themselves and one friend exclaimed “Neena!  Now I cutted TWO times!! (in my life)”.  Grandma Bente helped us turn all the veggies into a yummy soup and the kids ate it (and liked it really well!) as part of their lunch.  Thank you, Grandma Bente, for helping us!

Monday, December 3rd Activities…

Today we spent a lot of time playing games.  We also worked on making two birthday cards, we listened to Christmas music, sang, and read quite a few stories right before rest time, too.  Some of the games the kids enjoyed were Blokus, Connect Four, Boggle Junior, Perfection, Early Math Activity Jars, a Ladybug game, and two puzzles.

Singing, Dancing…

The kids have been listening to songs and singing or dancing along, and we have had the “Alexa” in the living room play lots of the kids’ requests.  Some of our recent songs have been:

* I’ve Got a Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy, Down in My Heart * our “Arky, Arky” song * He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands * The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock * Baby Shark    * Deep and Wide * This Little Light of Mine * Jesus Loves the little Children * The Bear Went over the Mountain * Teddy Bear Picnic * the Hello song * Alice the Camel * Firework * Great Are You, Lord * Baby Shark * Purple People Eater * Teddy Bear Picnic * Jesus Loves Me * Try Everything (Zootopia movie) * three popular My Little Pony songs * On Top of Spaghetti * Can’t Stop the Feeling (Trolls movie)

Books We Read…

Some of our recent books have been * Making Friends is an Art * Little Blue and Little Yellow * Just My Friend and Me * Pooh’s Best Friend * The Pigeon Has Feelings, Too!         * Good Night Sleepy Caterpillar * Elmo: Rise and Shine * Baby Faces: Sleep * Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed * Good Night, Good Night, Construction Site * Don’t Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late * Polar Bear Night * Llama Llama Nighty Night

YouTube Videos…

We watched three videos from YouTube recently (just a few minutes each).  We watched two versions of the “Stone Soup” story and one version of a “Friendship Soup” story on the day we made our soup.  We talked about how the characters met new friends, about how the characters were hungry but after they all shared something good happened, and I asked the kids how they would describe a good friend.

Recent Favorite Activities…

* Bringing buckets of toys upstairs to share in the living room, playing with the pizza set in the kitchen area, and cutting real vegetables on the day we made Friendship Soup.

* Playing downstairs, bringing a favorite stuffed animal to school, the pajama picnic day.

* Playing downstairs, Singing, Dancing,Toys, and playing the game “Perfection” (a Junior version of the game with nine pieces).

* Bringing a cape and getting to wear it on a show-n-share day, “doing a picnic” and “Shopping!” (the day the kids shopped for vegetables and made soup).

* Bringing buckets of toys up from the classroom, “The picnic and playing downstairs,” The parachute game we played – we called it the Popcorn game, “Cutting vegetables”, and playing all the games we played today.

* Four things one friend said he liked were “Stuff the Turkey!”, “Dancing!”, a parachute game we called the Peek-a-Boo game, and a second parachute game “the popping one!”

* “Playing the feather game”, “Having a picnic.”, “The popcorn one.  That was really funny” (parachute game), and “Trying the soup.”

* (Child’s name) loves to play downstairs and will often say that was her favorite thing.  (Child’s name) loved the day the kids shopped for vegetables, too.  She volunteered to be our cashier and went all out, letting each friend know how much their selection would cost, pretending to take the money, punching the keys, opening and closing the register, and pretending to give back their change!

* “Playing with (friend)”, “Sitting by (friend)”, playing downstairs, “Having a picnic and singing the baby Shark song.”, Playing the “Popcorn” parachute game, and playing the game “Perfection.”
