Activities this week:
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to our friend, who turned five this week! Her classmates made her a big birthday card using their handprints, crayons and paint. We sang happy birthday, and our friend brought cupcakes to share with everyone.
Veteran’s Day…
Light it up Green! We talked about how we are thankful for “good guys” like veterans who go all over the world and help keep us safe. We talked about how when veterans see our green light on our porches it is one little way we can tell them “thank you”. And we talked about how all of us can be “good guys” in our own special way.
Show and Share and a Story with Our Friend…
Thanks to each of you for helping your child bring a show-n-share item and/or a book to share on their calendar day this month. Since we are talking about friendship, I thought that could be one small way to give each child a little bit of special attention from their friends.
Some of the books the kids shared included “Five Minute Princess Stories”, “Five Minute Palace Pet Stories”, “Five Minute Super Hero Stories”, “Put Me in the Zoo”, “Search & Find: Dinosaurs”, “The Perfect Nest”, “Where’s Waldo”, and “Silverlicious”.
Some of the toys the kids enjoyed sharing were a “My First Doll”, a “gymnastics girl” toy, a Glitter Mermaid Barbie, a Glitter Rainbow Barbie, a singing “Rainbow Dash” My Little Pony, a battery operated Thomas the Train, a battery operated light-up Hot Wheels car, a special stuffed animal, an LOL doll toy with a cool capsule and accessories; and last week, a See & Say Farm toy and a cool container full of collectible Knight action figures. The kids asked each other questions about their items and passed the toys around the circle so everyone could get a good look.
Game: The Mayflower…
During our “Mayflower” game the kids blew air through straws to float corks (representing their “Mayflower”) across the “ocean” (a long, shallow Sterlite storage bucket full of water.) If the kids were older, we could make it a race, but at this age they were just excited about successfully aiming their straws and getting the corks to move!
Game: Shake Your Tail Feathers/Chicken Dance…
During our “Shake Your Tail Feathers” game the kids danced two at a time to the “Chicken Dance” song. While they danced the kids either wore a Kleenex box (emptied of Kleenex, and then filled with feathers) tied around their waist while they danced, or the kids held the box in front of them or behind them as they danced.
Game: Football Flick…
During this game the kids took turns flicking a small, soft toy football out of the palms of their hands, attempting to get their footballs to fly between our (toy) goal posts to score a “touchdown”.
Game: Turkey Bowling…
We used plastic bottles (decorated to look like turkeys) as our “bowling pins” and in place of a bowling ball, we experimented with a tiny basketball, a tiny baseball, a tiny football, and a tiny soccer ball.
We Are Thankful…
This week as we read our stories each day we paused to talk about thankfulness. Some of our books were about moms and dads, some were about grandparents, some were about Thanksgiving, some about friendship…
After reading stories, some of the things the kids said they were thankful for were: Mommies, Daddies, “my MommyDaddy”, Mommy, my family, my bed, my bed, my mommy, my Batman, Grandpas, Grandmas, Mimis, Papas, “my Rainbow Dash”, my daddy, my dad, our mommies, my family, my dance class, my “dadamama”, my sister, my brother, “I’m thankful for (friend) and (friend)”, “I’m thankful for…Jesus!”, I’m thankful for (friend) and (friend) and Jesus”, “I am thankful for my mommy and my daddy and my bed.”, “I’m thankful for (friend) and (friend) and Jesus.”, “I’m thankful for (friend)”, “I’m thankful for (four friends), (teacher) and myself…and my parents, and my brother… and (friend).”, “Friends and hugs.”, “’I’m thankful for (two friends)”, “I’m thankful for (two friends)”, “I’m thankful for (five friends)”, “I thankful for everybody!”, I’m thankful for (friend), “For my Mimi and papa” I thankful for (friend), I thankful for everybody, for my dad, I’m thankful for Jesus and God and (friend), for my birthday, my bedroom – oh!
